Scottish Burlroot Table Snuffbox
Circa 1820
Size: 8 1/2" long x 5 1/2" wide x 3" high.
When I saw this piece ... it was a must have! This is definitely the craziest of all the burl snuffboxes I have seen. Most fantastic in its' natural gnarly form - even the lid is camouflaged by a section of burl (something that I have not seen - but have wanted to see on other Scottish burlroot snuffboxes). The form is intricate in subtle details from "natural bridges" to deep polyped clusters and with two flanges framing the box area that are minimally carved in a manner of suggestive foliage.
The box is actually formed by two separate burlroots joined (quite invisibly) together.
* Because of the complexity of the form, the box was difficult to photograh. Its' true beauty and outrageuousness can only be fully appreciated in hand.

Condition: Excellent with minor wear from surface contact. All original.
