Elaborate Folk Art Treen Baby Teether
Circa: 1812
Size: 6 3/4" H x 2 1/2" W
A remarkable love token carved from hickory for "JANE GLERE 1812b[orn]". The handle is extensively chip carved with hearts, stars and geometric patterns—the stem with a War of 1812 officer with sword and shako. The relief carved "baubles" around the bottom, near the teether are actually tiny heads. (Found in Portland, Maine by dealer, Nancy Price on a house call.)
*Note: Replaced teether.
Condition: Very good - Excellent. Old stress cracks (see image below) wire period wire repair. A few small insect holes to handle (see above). Surface is first rate maintaining a remarkable patina. *Note: teether is a replacement.
