American Folk Art Ash Burl Portrait Bust
Circa: 1840
Size: 14 1/4" x 8" x 8"

This is really a remarkable piece of American folk art. This large (life sized) portrait bust of a young man is carved from the solid of a large ash burl. The carver was clearly an experienced carver, as the proportions, shape of the head and details of the face are accurately and sensitively rendered.

Five Bowl Burl Nest
Circa: 1800
Sizes range: 5" D (inner bowl) > 9" D (outer bowl)
Rare assembled nest. Each fits VERY tightly (as tight as a nest of Nantucket baskets) into the other. All good bowls—each of fine form and surface. $14,000.00/set

New York State Iron Handled Ash Burl Scoop / Dipper
Circa: 1740-1760
Size: 29" OAL; (bowl) 10"D x 7"H
This is quite an extraordinary object. The maker was clearly a competent woodworker and blacksmith-combining skilled iron work with a terrifically hewn ash burl. $18,500.00

Northeastern Turned Ash Burl Bowl
Circa: 1780
Size: 13 1/2" D x 4" H

A very attractive turned bowl—this would have been for the table, not the kitchen. Broad flaring rim with nice shrinkage giving it a nice uneven height. Beautiful dark nutty brown burl specimen.
