American Folk Art Ash Burl Portrait Bust

This is really a remarkable piece of American folk art. This large (life sized) portrait bust of a young man is carved from the solid of a large ash burl. The carver was clearly an experienced carver, as the proportions, shape of the head and details of the face are accurately and sensitively rendered. Found in the early 1970's in Fredericksburg, VA (though the piece may have more northern roots, possibly NYS or OH).
Condition: Excellent. Untouched first rate surface.
